Gift of Hope recognizes the need for children in school to have proper nutrition in order to be physically and psychologically prepared for a learning environment. We also recognize how expensive feeding a family can be. Children in the Backpack Club have been identified by teachers, counselors or lunch room attendants as having shown signs of hunger, in particular on Monday mornings. A backpack of nutritious food is sent home with the child on Friday to eat through the weekend.
The Backpack Club furnishes food for approximately 1,000 children each week during the school year. The following schools participate in the program: Branson, Hollister, Forsyth, Kirbyville, Taneyville, Bradleyville, Mark Twain and Trinity Christian Academy.
